As a result of the 2-day workshop in July 2019 in Amsterdam this STORIE project (Supporting Transformation of our Organisations by Regenerating Inclusive Education) emerged out of a recognition of a shared concern and interest in the need to better understand and address Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in higher education. This is primarily accomplished through exploring inclusive education, and the structural/contextual barriers that stand in the way of it. Starting with the acknowledgment of the integral role that universities play in fostering inclusive societies, this project aims to use a story telling approach of gathering data, to examine unheard voices and empower students and staff at the University of Birmingham.
The aim of this project is to gather narratives that help further understandings of inclusion in higher education, and recognise the voices of the participants, and also empower them and build a community. We hope that this will generate new insights and approaches to inclusive higher education research, policies and practices; and also address the systemic processes that reproduce inequalities.
